On September 29, 2025, Service Canada announced that the strike will cause delays in mailing cheques for Canada Disability Benefits and Employment Insurance (EI) benefits. While CPP and OAS cheques will still be delivered, they may arrive earlier than expected, before the official deposit date. Service Canada is urging Canadians to register for direct deposit and submit applications online whenever possible. They also warned that decision letters and other mail-outs for many programs will be affected.
Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) issued guidance to help taxpayers navigate the disruption. CRA strongly encourages individuals and businesses to file returns and remit payments electronically to avoid delays. For those involved in audits, objections, appeals, disputes, or relief requests, communication will continue through telephone and digital channels, such as online CRA accounts and the Secure Drop Zone. Written correspondence will be limited to exceptional cases. Importantly, CRA noted that penalty and interest relief may be available for those unable to meet obligations due to circumstances beyond their control. Canada Post Strike Temporarily Paused
Canada Post resumed operations on November 24, 2025, following the union’s decision to pause strike action. While services are returning to normal, please anticipate some delays as full operations resume. CRA will continue to update their Canada Post mail service disruption – Impact on CRA services webpage (https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/news/newsroom/canada-post-mail-service-disruption-impact-cra.html) with the latest information.
